UPDATES 

Watch for updates throughout my blog as I spend 4 weeks with the French tome Odile Marten's Pionniers de la Montagne Pembina:  Saint-Leon 1877-2000 borrowed from the Manitoba Legislative Library.

I will try to maintain a list of my updates here to help us keep track of my work:

1. The Clear Path to Antoine Lafreniere - July 13, 2012 

a) Magdeleine dit Letard dit St. Onge dit McTavish's husband Antoine Lafreniere never made it to St. Leon. Antoine's son Antone (born in 1828) passed away before his uncle Olivier and family helped establish St. Leon in 1877. Magdelaine would move to St. Leon after her husband died in December 1880.

b) Antoine donated some land to build a parish and cemetery in his community of Ste. Croix in the village of Lafontaine, Ontario. Antoine would be buried in this cemetery on Dec 2, 1880.

c) Numerous spouses of Antoine's children and siblings have been updated with new marriage and death dates More photos will be posted soon.

2. The Lafreniere Settlers of the Pembina Mountains - Feb. 13, 2020 This posting has been updated with a better description, including new maps, of the topography, flora and fauna. 

Also includes a hint of why the Lafrenieres moved to Saint-Leon. 

3. Births and Deaths at the Parish of ST. LEON, MANITOBA 1878-1880 - Jan. 16, 2020 - has been updated with new Ovide-Benjamin documents and photos.

4. The First Parish Priest of Saint-Leon - updated with new details regarding the construction of the church and an interesting story about the people building the church
